Matariki 2025 – A Time to Reflect, Reconnect, and Look to the Stars
Matariki is more than just a date on the calendar. Rooted in the ancient traditions of Māori astronomy and storytelling, it heralds the Māori New Year — a time to honour those who have passed, celebrate the present with whānau (family), and plant seeds of hope for the future. It’s a uniquely Kiwi celebration, rich in heritage and meaning, and increasingly embraced by people from all walks of life.

Te Ātiawa ki te Upoko o te Ika a Māui Pōtiki Trust takes very seriously activities that have a negative impact on the rohe and moana in particular. However, it should be noted and taken into account that the Trust is not wholly responsible for all fishing activities.
Hence, the Trust strongly encourages the reporting of any potential fishing activity of concern to the correct authority - MPI Fisheries.
If you know off, or come across an incident of concern you can either call MPI Fisheries on 0800 42 87 64 or go online direct to the MPI Fisheries and fill out the form to aid an investigation into the matter. CLICK HERE to fill out the form.
