Matariki 2025 – A Time to Reflect, Reconnect, and Look to the Stars
Matariki is more than just a date on the calendar. Rooted in the ancient traditions of Māori astronomy and storytelling, it heralds the Māori New Year — a time to honour those who have passed, celebrate the present with whānau (family), and plant seeds of hope for the future. It’s a uniquely Kiwi celebration, rich in heritage and meaning, and increasingly embraced by people from all walks of life.

Kaitiakitanga and the responsibilities that it entails for the rohe, the moana and the whenua are at the forefront of the uri of Te Ātiawa ki te Upoko o te Ika a Māui Pōtiki Trust and the other entities that affiliate with the Trust.

In the 1800s, the prophet Te Whiti was at Parihaka.
The Parihaka movement was underpinned by:-
• the Bible, the supreme word of God
• the poi, peace and hospitality
• the raukura three white albatross feathers denoting glory to God, peace on earth and goodwill to all men.
