Pipitea Trustee
Matthew is a Trustee of Te Ātiawa ki Te Upoko o Te Ika a Māui Pōtiki Trust, elected by members whose primary affiliated marae is Pipitea to represent them on the Trust Board.
His Trust mahi is focused on creating opportunities for rangatahi, strengthening the mauri of Te Ātiawa, and supporting decisions that uphold whakapapa, whenua and whānau aspirations.
Matthew has previously served as Deputy Chair and interim Chair of the Trust, bringing governance experience, communications and funding expertise, and strong relationships across the community sector to his role on the Board.
Matthew was born and raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and has a background in marketing, communications and funding across the social services, education, health and environmental sectors. He holds a BA in Anthropology and Geography from Victoria University.
Matthew was elected to Wellington City Council to represent Te Whanganui-a-Tara Māori Ward in 2025. He uri tēnei nō Te Ātiawa ki Pōneke, Te Arawa me Ngāti Ruanui. His tūpuna lived at Pipitea Pā and signed Te Tiriti o Waitangi in Wellington in April 1840, and he carries 200 years of whakapapa to this whenua and a commitment to its future generations.
