Members of Te Ātiawa ki te Upoko o te Ika a Māui Pōtiki Trust are being encouraged to take part in an important decision shaping the future governance of the Trust by voting on the proposed Restated Deed of Trust and attending the upcoming Special General Meeting.
The proposed restated deed sets out how the Trust will operate into the future, including how trustees are elected, how marae are represented, and how major decisions will be made. Because these changes affect the way the Trust serves its members, participation in the process is essential.
A Special Resolution is required to adopt the proposed restated deed, meaning the resolution must be supported by more than 75 percent of those who take part in the vote. This makes every vote important.
If members do not participate, the outcome could be decided by only a small number of voters, even though the changes will affect all members. By voting, members can help ensure the decision reflects the collective voice of Te Ātiawa ki te Upoko o te Ika a Māui Pōtiki Trust.
The proposed changes cover several key areas, including:
The Special General Meeting (SGM) will provide members with an opportunity to hear more about the proposed amendments, ask questions, and take part in discussion before or while voting. Attending the meeting either kanohi ki te kanohi or live online will help members make an informed decision about the future direction of the Trust.
Members attending the SGM will be able to:
To support members through the process, an information guide has been prepared outlining the legislative changes and proposed amendments required to ensure the Trust remains compliant. A consultation draft of the Restated Deed of Trust has also been made available for review.
These documents are intended to give members clarity on the proposed updates and support informed participation ahead of the Special General Meeting on Saturday 20 June 2026.
Details of the meeting are available now, and access to both online and in-person voting will be provided to members in advance.
